As the strongest supporter of Amtrak in the US, Joe Biden is solidifying his reputation.
It is well known that the president adores Amtrak, the National Railroad Passenger Corporation, which operates intercity services throughout the majority of the United States.
Yesterday, while on a visit to a train repair plant in his native state of Delaware, Biden highlighted the over $15 billion (or $16 billion) in federal investments made for train travel along the heavily used Northeast Corridor.
He has been on the road that connects Boston and Washington, DC. “thousands” of occasions.
Regarding the long-overdue upgrades, he declared, “We’re finally getting it done.”
Approximately 12 miles (20 km) from his place of residence in Wilmington, the president touted expenditures at a meeting in Bear to modernize 25 passengers train installations along the rail route.
“Why don’t we have the greatest rail system throughout the world here in the great nation of America?” Biden queried.
“There’s a lot more that we can do to enhance our surroundings and quality of life,” he continued, noting that improved train transportation in some of the USA’s biggest locations would contribute to ease traffic congestion and possibly cut the consumption of fossil fuels.
According to the White House, Amtrak’s Northeast Corridor sees around 800,000 travelers per day, making it the busiest rail corridor in the country. The gathering on Monday brought together two causes dear to Biden’s heart: Delaware and Amtrak.
“It feels good to be at home,” he said. “My home state is the best place for me to make this announcement.”
The approximately $1 trillion (€0.94 trillion) bipartisan infrastructure package that Biden signed over two years ago provides the cash for the rail upgrades. In a presidential contest that may see a rematch with former President Trump, he is highlighting a number of legislative victories.
The White House claims that Amtrak will receive around $66 billion (€62 billion) in new investments as a result of the measure.
Regarding rail enhancements, Biden remarked, “I know I’ve been discussing this for an extended time.” “We’re finally finishing it, finally.”
