Alastair Chalmers says he is aiming at the final of the 400 m obstacles in the World Championship in Tokyo after running the best of the best.
The current British Guersey champion, 25, registered 48.30 seconds in Germany on Sunday, breaking his best best part of 0.24 seconds.
Time means that he is the fifth fastest British of all time more than 400 m obstacles.
Chalmers lost the finals in the European championship last summer before falling into the semifinals at the Paris Olympic Games.
If the chalmers end up in the first two in the next British championship, a place in Tokyo will be guaranteed, having achieved the classification standard.
“It can go so much from time to time, I have to stay healthy,” Guernsey Radio Radio told BBC.
“I think of the day in Tokyo if I can execute a really good race and I am healthy and in good shape, then there is a good possibility that I can reach that final.
“It will be difficult, but that is the objective of the competition, you must appear the day and give yourself if you are everything and you are not messing up.”
Chalmers has won the last five British titles and is in the form of his life, after having improved his best year after year.
“Running the fastest time of your life is always a lovely sensation,” he added.
“When I crossed the line I was very happy to have directed that world qualifier, the best of staff, I think it was also a meeting record.
“I am in a great place physically and mentally and only allows me to leave and run quickly on the track against some very high quality athletes.”
The World Championship in Japan will take place from September 13 to 21.
