Another round of cuts in the WNBA training camp simply arrived when the teams are preparing to play preseason games on Tuesday and Wednesday. Among the most notable were the former Paige Bueckers teammate Christyn Williams, who graduated from UConn in 2022 and was recruited No. 14 in general to the Mestics of Washington that year.
Unfortunately, Williams suffered a tear of LCA in the training field, similar to what happened to Georgia Amore a week ago. She rehabilitated for a year, but it was possible cut of the Mystics, anyway signing a season rest contract with the Phoenix Mercury at the end of the 2023 season. The Mercury resigned it in the training camp at the beginning of the 2024 season. This year, Williams signed with a training camp with the minnesota Lynx, but was renounced before the games of Lynx preseason.
Minnesota Lynx also renounced Kiara Leslie. In another part of the League, the Dallas Wings announced that they had renounced Aaronette Vonleh, their 31 selection in the WNBA draft of 2025. On Tuesday afternoon, Seattle’s storm announced that they had cut Jordan Hobbs and Madison Conner. The storm recruited Conner 29th in general and Hobbs 34º in general in the 2025 WNBA Draft. The only 2025 recruits of Seattle in the training field are Serena Sundell (No. 26) and Dominique Malonga (No. 2).
Training camp cuts will increase in the next few days as the teams continue to play their first and second preseason games. The deadline to block the opening day lists is May 15, but many teams will make their final cuts per day or two before that, so players have the opportunity to be claimed to Waiavers before the season begins.
Players can be claimed by Waatvers in the 48 hours after they are renounced, and are paid for that period. If the teams are too long, that period enters the regular season, and the money paid goes against their limit limit. It is also more expensive since payment rates in the season are higher than the training camp.
The League already saw a player claimed outside the exemptions when Atlanta’s dream grabbed Shyanne Sellers from Golden State Valkyries.
